Wow. How can colors be so good as in black and white! I know it sounds strange, but look for yourself. We made during our most recent visit in november 2022 to Kathmandu a special in black and white photography. How the city, how the people look so different and vibrant. Still it is the same city, but the moments are more frozen, intense, telling each a story that colors cannot capture in that way. I hope you will enjoy them as I made them with much passion. Kathmandu photos in black and white!

After the Corona crisis, life in Nepal also has been picked up again. As with the 2015 earthquakes, the country and its people are proving to be very resilient, even in the absence of government support. In Nepal, no support packages for entrepreneurs or tests and vaccinations on a large scale. This naturally makes people more cautious, mouth-guards were worn neatly and lockdowns were tightly enforced. The number of casualties has thus been limited. However, the economic damage is very high and the country is now relying on the revival of tourism, although this will be limited in 2022. In April, I visited the country and was able to reacquaint myself with the colourful versatility of the Himalayan country.

This time i brought my Lensbaby SOL45 lens with me to Nepal. On Internet there are only rare pictures available of this particular lens used in Nepal. So it could easily be a little premiere to present a bit distorted, but unique perspective of faces and places in Kathmandu. Furthermore we updated the Streetviews section and take a look as well into our Happiness page!

Faces of Nepal
Nepal keeps fascinating. If you think you have seen it all, it will surprise you again. Every day is different, even visiting the same places all over again. Life in Nepal is colorful and colors change. Everytime. But in 2018 I managed to join a long anticipated trekking to Langtang, of course it’s mountains are likely to be considered as a destination, a top to be reached, but in fact it is the journey, the places you visit during the trek that makes the trip unforgettable. The people who live here, who chose to live here or just cannot live somewhere else, show their remarkable lives in the harsh mountains. See for yourself in the albums how they express themselves, how they put a smile on their face, even when we know how hard their life can be here. Also many updates on the albums in faces, as i was lucky to shoot some very beautiful, some very touching and some very humorous and happy ones. Join me again in a new episode of Faces of Nepal. I hope you will like it (again)!

Nepal keeps amazing. Every time I go there and in December I had a little anniversary. At customs in Nepal they checked my 25th Visa. Are there still new things to see in Nepal? The answer is yes. Everytime I walk into Thamel, the scenery is different and people and situations impress me while they unfold a yet not told story to me. Some of them I was able to capture them and add them to the different categories of my ‘faces of Nepal’. Also you may find some new impressions from rural life in Chitwan, some enchanting temple impressions, but this time streetviews is the main update. But also I added (with my 26th visa:)) a collection named ‘Nepastel‘, a warm sunset in Balthali, a rural ancient village where we walked just after sunrise on an April morning in 2018 and where we made some of the best pictures ever. So I hope you enjoy this new update and immerse yourself in the colorful world that we call Nepal. Here some examples:

Our database is up to date till july 2022! Unfortunately Corona crisis came a few months after but meanwhile we visited Nepal again and uploaded new pictures!

We have added a very touching documentary we made in November 2015. It shows how after the devastating earthquakes, how resilient the Nepali are. In the special we show you many interviews and footage from Kathmandu during the Tihar festival and some trips we made to schools in the valley. Also a visit to ancient Balthali, where time stands still...
